    Default Disk space on SMS

    Hello,

I have a SMS running R80.10 and started receiving messages in SmartConsol that "Partition /opt has: 1716 MB of free space and it's lower than required: 2000 MB".

I ran the commands below and they seem to show the directories that are large.

Is it safe to delete any files in these directories to free up space?

    [Expert@msgcu-sms:0]# pwd
    /var
    [Expert@msgcu-sms:0]# df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
    /dev/mapper/vg_splat-lv_current
    18578172 15204696 2429760 87% /
    /dev/sda1 295561 37950 242351 14% /boot
    tmpfs 8149888 4 8149884 1% /dev/shm
    /dev/mapper/vg_splat-lv_log
    711017560 570455328 103862072 85% /var/log
    [Expert@msgcu-sms:0]#

    This is the problem:

    /dev/mapper/vg_splat-lv_current
    18578172 15204696 2429760 87% /

you have 18.5GB in the / directory with about 2.4GB available. I am pretty sure /opt is sub directory of /.

    You should be doing this:

    1- cd /
    2- du -h .

this will tell you exactly what you have under / directory. Go through them carefully and see which one you can remove. /var/CPbackup, /var/CPsnapshot, /var/crash. You can remove everything inside those directories. do you have any large files under /home/admin?

I ran cd / and then du -h and my SSH session has been scrolling showing these files for about five minutes now:

    4.0M ./var/log/opt/CPrt-R77/distrib/{72A039F5-A864-4A41-8838-9F5D682EA9EF}.db/154000

Is it safe for me to remove these?

This SMS was upgraded from 77.30 to 80.10. I don't know if these are remnants from 77.30?

I deleted the files in /var/CPbackup, /var/CPsnapshot, /var/crash , even though none of them were significant in size.

The /home/admin directory doesn't have any large files.

This is a somewhat less verbose command to use:

    du --max-depth=1 -h .

The earlier command crawls the filesystem and prints *all* directory sizes. The "--max-depth=1" switch causes it to crawl everything but print only the directories in the directory you specify (and the . specifies the current directory). You then change into the biggest and do it again, thereby narrowing it down over time.

Keep aware of where your other volumes are mounted. For example, /var/log will almost always be huge, but it's on a different volume, so you don't have to care about it right now.
