    Default Migration from R75.40 to R77.30

    Hello all,

    I want to migrate from Gaia R75.40 (OpenServer) to Gaia R77.30 (virtual machine on VMware ESXi). I installed new VM on my VMware Workstation from Check_Point_R77.30_Install_and_Upgrade.Gaia.iso and made a backup from the current server. After I uploaded the backup to the VM and tried to restore it I received the following error:

    LOG=RESTORE 1490024415 1490031615 backup_cpsn001_1_3_2017_03_30.tgz Local - FALSE
    Package is of version "R75.40", which is incompatible with current version on machine "R77"

    Is there a way to convert the backup from R75.40 to R77.30?

    Thank you!

    Just to be sure: You are trying to migrate a centrally managed gateway without management server?

    Hello ofink,

    Thank you for your answer. It's about Smart Management but I decided it would be better to use migrate export instead of backup.
    Unfortunately I'm facing issues with migrate and and upgrade_export / upgrade_import tools. When I use upgrade_export or migrate export on R75.40 everything is fine. Then I copy the .tgz file to the new Smart Management which is R77.30. When I try to import with migrate import or upgrade_import I receive the following error:

    Database export was done with migration tools for different version. You must export and import database with migration tools for version installed on destination machine.

    I found sk110959 but it didn't help. Do you guys have any idea?

    I found solution for the above issue. I copied the whole $FWDIR/bin/upgrade_tools directory from R77.30 to R75.40 machine. After that 'migrate export' on R75.40 and 'migrate import' on R77.30 executed without any issues.

    The tools in the $FWDIR/bin/upgrade_tools will be by default the tools for THAT Version.

    ie on an R75.40 then will be the R75.40 Management Tools. on an R77.30 will be the R77.30 Tools They will generate a file suitable to import into that release.

    As such when you want to migrate to a newer release then you will always need to down the appropriate release, ie if you want to migrate to R80 then would need to download the R80 management tools to the R77.30 System and run them on that box to generate an R80 compatible export.

    mcnallym, thank you for your reply! Unfortunately I learned that on the hard way. I thought the newer version of migrate tool will be able to deal with backups made from older versions.
