    Default mail alerts with internal_sendmai

    Hello all,

I am trying for many weeks to get the mail alerts with internal_sendmai to run.
I am oriented myself on SmartViewMonitor Admin Guide and on this sk:
    https://supportcenter.checkpoint.com...SmartDashboard,

Did enyone get the email alerts to run with that feature?

    This is the command docu:
    internal_sendmail [-s <subject>] [-t <mail-server>] [-f <from email address>] <recipient-1> <recipient-2> ...

Here is how my command look like:
    internal_sendmail -s "change_alert" -t yahoo.de -f mymail@yahoo.de myrecipient@mail.ru

Honestly, I didn't understand how this command can be able to send an Email from my yahoo.de mail account without knowing password.
Od does the command just spoof the emai address?

Please help me out to understand this magic command :)

    Best regards

This is what we have setup. We use an internal exchange server though. I do not see an option to send out alerts using external email as the mail transport (gmail, yahoo, etc.)

    internal_sendmail -s 'alert' -t exch1 -f fwadmin@xxx.xxx fwadmin@xxx.xxx

The -t needs a smtp mailserver that your firewall is able to send mail through, an internal server is preferred like an exchange server, but when you can send mail to your ISP's smtp server that should do as well. Be aware that your management server needs to be allowed to send mail to this server.

After Migrating to Multi Domain server, internal sendmail stop working.

As per checkpoint, in MDS environment alert & sendmail is not supported, is this true ?

This is what I have in a CMA on our MDS:
    internal_sendmail -s <subject> -t <Mailserver> -f <Mailfrom address> <Mailto Address>

We are running R77.20 and it is still working for us.

I think you need to show some details. It sounds like you have no idea where the issue issue. First off is the command working from the shell? If the command works have you looked at email server's logs to see if its connecting? If its connecting is the email server generating an error message?

    Hello,

the command is not working from the the CLI:
    [Expert@MGMTR7720:0]# internal_sendmail
    -bash: internal_sendmail: command not found

    [Expert@MGMTR7720:0]# which internal_sendmail
    /usr/bin/which: no internal_sendmail in (/opt/CPinfo-10/bin:/opt/CPinfo-10/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/opt/CPshrd-R77/bin:/opt/CPshrd-R77/util:/opt/CPshrd-R77/web/Apache/2.2.0/bin:/opt/CPsuite-R77/fw1/bin:/opt/CPsuite-R77/fw1/oracle_oi/sdk:/opt/CPsuite-R77/fg1/bin:/opt/CPda/bin:/opt/CPportal-R77/webis/bin:/opt/CPportal-R77/portal/bin:/opt/CPrt-R77/bin:/opt/CPuepm-R77/bin:/opt/CPuepm-R77/engine/jre/bin:/opt/CPshrd-R77/database/postgresql/bin:/opt/CPSmartLog-R77/bin:/opt/CPda/bin:/home/admin/bin)

What I don't understand, how it should be possible to send some Emails via a mail server from a mail account without providing password for that mail account?

normally sending smtp mail does not require a login.

The command is intended to send out through an internal/corporate mail server that is configured to allow relays from your SMS without authentication. If you want to originate notification emails from an external server (which would definitely require auth), you'll have to find or write another script/command.

By default Check Point disables the monitoring process on MDS. You can re-enable on a per-CMA basis via cpstat_monitor (run within each mdsenv). Be aware, they disabled it for a reason - it can be resource intensive.

I think, that is the explanation I was looking for. Thanks!
I will try with my local/internal mail server.
