Passed Accelerated CCSE NGX Rev 1.1 (156-915.1)

Just passed this Exam %73 out of %70 pass mark. What a killer !!!

Sitting the course (practicals) was next to useless for the exam however the coursebook is required reading.

There were a number of topics not covered in the coursesware or the book such VPN based routing !! If you're going to try and sit the test get the manuals and do some reading in this area because i got at least 4 questions on this topic. At the start of the exam it pops up and tells you what you'll be tested on, funny thing was there were about 2 topics that aren't on their web site even !!!!

As usual for Checkpoint the content wasn't all that difficult it was just how they phrased everything. I dont know why they can get this right in the manuals yet screw it up so much in exams.

This Accellerated test was really a combined CCSA and CCSE NGX test and its very hard to pass without having extensive practical experience with Checkpoint rulebase and VPNs. There were alot of what i'd call general-Checkpoint-knowledge questions

what to read up on (in order of importance);


Clustering - cphaprob output and other tools. How unicast and multicast works.

Rulebase - some stuff about global properties implie rules and their defaults. Know the difference between implicit and explicit. There were a number of questions regarding performance, rule base order, logging.

SmartView Monitor - lots of questions regarding auditing,


QOS rules - limit and guarantee guidelines for the QoS Rulebase. How to allocate weights. What is LLQ and Diffserve.

Upgrading - There were a number of upgrade questions regarding moving from standalone to distributed etc. How to install central licences (SmartUpdate). Upgrade or install process on SecurePlatform.

SIC - a couple of SIC questions, one about resetting sic via the command line and one about what SIC actually is.

Management HA - There were a couple of questions regarding the different errors. Know the limitations of synchronization (i.e. can you use the same version, do the servers need to be the same OS or on the same network) and what starts automatic synchronization.

VPNs - Some stuff about Remote access encryption domains and star or meshed VPN topologies.

Ldap - there were few Ldap questions regarding schema importing and schema checking.

What there wasn't much of;

Eventia reporter - Not a single question
SecureClient - Nothing regarding the new Office-mode per site Radius etc which surprised me.

Would the people who took the CCSE NGX please comment on whether they had already passed the CCSE NG AI? I'm trying to figure out whether this test is far more difficult than the one for NG AI or not. I can't figure it out from the topics being listed.

Today I took exam and passed it with 70% nearly fail. I read pdf manual files and Table of content in checkpoint website. Many of the questions in accelerateed CCSE(156-915.1) are in Testking CCSA 156-215.1 V14. If you would like to take this exam, I recommend you to read TK for CCSA or CCSE too.

(Background: I've got the NG AI versions of CCSA, CCSE, CCSE+, CCMSE, and I used Check Point products every day, and have done for most of the last 5 years).

Finally got around to sitting this one tonight, passed with 86%.

The comments above are pretty much accurate. I found most of it relatively straightforward, but there were a couple of very strangely worded questions, and some where I could see what answer they wanted me to give, but I believe all the answers were wrong. One or two of the questions about how to do a backup/restore/migrate to a new server were very strange - I wouldn't use any of the processes they suggested - there are better, easier ways. I'll email them about it later.

Study-wise, I used the sample chapters available, and the Check Point PDFs. The content is all in there, but when reading the Check Point docs, you need to know what sections to skim over, when they start going too deep into detail. Good to be able to reference it, but you're not going to get asked every possible cpha* command in the exam - only the main ones matter.

Regards whether it was harder than the previous exams or not, I'm not quite sure. I think it covers a few things that previously used to be CCSE+ level - e.g LDAP and ClusterXL. In itself that doesn't make it harder though - I found the CCSE+ the easiest exam of all the previous ones I've done. Perhaps on balance it was a little more difficult than the earlier versions. Some of the stuff like QoS I've never had questions on before. Luckily QoS was one of the sample chapters available, and the questions were not too difficult - 100% on that section, and I've never deployed QoS!

And just further to the comment about topics not being listed on the website, this is the list of topics on my exam score report:

Anyone use the Testking exam for this one? I attempted the test (made a 63) before this practice exam was published. The questions were almost identical to what I recall being on the test. I'm going to take the exam tomorrow in hopes the questions haven't changed.

I used the latest testking questions for 156-915.1.
As for how many of the questions came up in the exam..
Now that would be telling, however it was a supprisingly large amount of them.

Other revision material, i had a copy of the accelerated course notes and used them aswell.

Just passed CCSE NGX NGX Accel, be warned to not rely on only the testking many of the question are covered, but there are some topics not mentioned such as load sharing, which there are a few questions in the actual exam.

I know I can take Accelerated CCSE NGX(156-915.1) test to re-cert CCSE in NG AI. But I have CCSE in NG(without AI) in 2003. Can I take Acclerated CCSE NGX to re-cert my CCSE in NG? I am going to take the test soon, but before I take it, I'd like to make sure it's all what I need. Thank.
