How to Quickly Determine the Cause of Dropped Packets
To quickly determine the cause of dropped packets from the CLI of a gateway, run the command "fw ctl zdebug drop". This command will display the exact source/destination IP and port numbers along with protocol type. Along with header information, the reason for the drop is printed. Based on this drop reason, you can easily determine the resolution, or search in SecureKnowlege for a solution. This debug is not intrusive, and will not cause a performance impact. You can pipe this command to grep, or redirect to a file for viewing later. Every packet that is dropped by the kernel will have a debug print.
