    Default R70.20 Tracker

Has anyone else experienced problems with the R70.20 SmartView Tracker crashing (consistently) on launch?

That's what I'm expecting. If it was mis-behaving for everyone as badly as it is for me, well the QA guy's cat would have bounced it.

I suspect its something wrong with the SmartCenter I rebuilt in a hurry (The VMWare server died).

Mine's crashing in the lab when I try to launch Eventia Analyzer or IPS Event Analysis. I assume it's because I don't actually have an Eventia server set up, but still seems odd.
    Its all in the documentation.

    Um, so I'm not alone.
For a lab I tried the R70, R70.1 and R70.2 gui most crashes where during a try to open SmartView Monitor (even in demo mode).
At least add the progs to the exclude list of "Data Execution Prevention" helped but does not solve the crashing problem.

Mine looks very much like a HW problem (Seeing disk errors in /var/log/messages). Love to know what happened down there, counting the machine pressed into service as a SmartCenter, there are 6 of them acting up in three different racks.

70.1 I haven't had any problems with at all (Haven't used 70 itself much out of demo mode). What are you running on?

Mine crashes when i open eventia analyzer, it also crashes when i try to open geo protection under IPS in smart dashboard. I have been in contact with checkpoint on this, they are aware of this problem and is working so solve this problem.

Mine also crashes when open eventia analyzer and IPS Event Analises. I have uninstall R70.20 as documented in Installation Upgrade Guide, page.24.
I have also remove Eventia Suite and try to install again R70.20
But against what says on page.7 from same document R70.20 installation package did not install Eventia automatically. In the end of install process Eventia Suite R70.20 Package is Skipped.
After I tried to run sysconfig option 10 and install Eventia but what was installed was my previous version of Eventia.
I have noticed that opening Eventia Client from SmartDasboard R70.20 window and prompting for installing version R70.1 of Eventia Analyzer. Very odd and very wrong information on the manual!
Have ended installing a fresh R70 from CD and revert to a previous snapshot taken before this odyssey. I have postponed my upgrade to R70.20 and going to stay in R70.1 in my SPLAT SamartCenter until CP release some solution.

This same issue was discovered internally. It happens if Windows is set to a non-English default language (I.e. Something other than US English). Workaround is to change your language settings. You can bet a fix is coming for this.

And yes, a fix is present for this. The SmartConsole available for download in User Center has been replaced with a version that has this bug fixed. Uninstall your old SmartConsole apps and install this. The problem should be resolved.

Before anyone asks the obvious followup question...

The MD5 of the new SmartConsole is f3cdaafd8c139e21868c66fb0fe1743a. In Addition, if you go to Help -> About of the application you should see "R70.20 (Build 730630001 )."

I still get annoyed that while the build number is updated, the version number is not. It's a real PITA that this is hidden and how often CP "stealth" releases updates. R70.20.1 please?

Amen. If they update the build number, surely they can update the minor version number (even R70.21 would be sufficient).

Agreed on the version numbers!!! I got caught by this a while back when R60 HFA_01 came out originally and there was an issue with the original release. CP ended up just releasing another HFA_01 - WHAT?!? Why not just immediately pull HFA_01 and call the new one 02? Now everyone is confused - why do this to us?

R70.21 is a perfect example of why I thought they had actually changed the numbering from HFA_0x to HFA_x0. Apparently, I was wrong when I guessed that's why they changed it.

    Edit: Fixed typos

    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Just when you think you have them figured out, they zig and zag, and you're lost. It's almost as if the licensing process is bleeding over to other departments.
