Default Install NGX R65 in VM Server Test Lab

    Hi CPUG Readers.

I would like to setup a test lab for 2 Checkpoint Gateway's on vmserver environment. Anyone on here acomplished an install of secureplatform NGX gateway install with different ip addresses but can route to one another as I also intend on installing management server running on windows vm machine.

When building the vm disk which linux kernel do I use?

    Ta.

Use VMWare and when you configure the VM, select Red Hat Enterprise 3. It works beautifully.

Hmm... I might try that one. I've always used "other 2.4 kernel". Not sure if it makes much difference?

Thanks. I had to enable the cd boot option for installing...

    Thank you.

I doubt it will make much difference at all. Since SPLAT is based on RHEL 3.0, I figured I'd just select that one.

Fair call, I was just wondering if the underlying engine of VMware dealt with it a bit better actually specifying the right one vs a generic.

I guess not, and that in the end, it doesn't really matter anyway as it is a test environment.

    Cheers :-)

If your not using Lab Manager you can select 64 bit linux and it will default to the e1000 nic driver for your VM. Unfortunatly to get it Lab manager you have to take the risk and modify the config files yourself to use e1000. Otherwise it will use the pcnet32 drivers.

Anyone know if it is or ever will be possible to get IPSO running on a VMWare server as opposed to SPLAT?

Have a hunt around this site. There are some discussions on it. It sounds like it might be possible if you seriously know what you're doing, otherwise you're out of luck.

Succesfully installed NGX 65 on VMWare VM's several times this Saturday past. I'm using ESX 2.5.2 - only recommendation is not to use the vmxnet ethernet driver ... use "vlance" and it works like a charm. I also used the "Other" option for Guest OS.
