Default H.323 reason: Malformed FastStart field

    H.323 reason: Malformed FastStart field

I'm receiving the above error with IP Telephony over VPN after upgrading from R55 to R60. I believed at first th eissue to be related to SmartDefense, but I disabled all of the options pertaining to VoIP in SD and no change.

In my research I've seen that H.323 can have trouble in NAT situations, and the telephones themselves are translated, however our current configuration worked normally in 4.1 and in R55.

Information in the help files for R60 refer to Gatekeepers and Gateways for IP telephony and guidance on configuing them, however these weren't needed before, and I am not savvy enough to figure out why I need them now, and my experiments were unproductive. =)

Suggestions appreciated. We've got enterprise support with CP but no weekend service (which is odd, because that is when upgrades happen, isn't it?). I'm anxious for our telecommuters to have their IP phones by Monday morning if possible, of course.

    Thank you,

    Andrew

p.s. Less critical is another issue after the upgrade -- ISP redundancy / Load balancing seems to have quit working. Input on this would also be appreciated!

    Correction to above:

One of the telephones is not translated and is among those that do not work.

    Thanks

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

I have seen your posting, I am also facing the same kind of problem.

I am receiving the following error while we accessing the VOIP traffic thru secure remote VPN after upgrading the Firewall from R55 to NGX.

I believe this issue is because of Smart Defense, I also enable the options pertaining to VOIP and H.323 service and no effect.

However H.323 is giving trouble only with the current version it was worked normally in R55.

    am getting following error.

    H.323 reason: Malformed FastStart field

Am also upgrade the hot fix HFA_03 thru Patch add utility on shell mode. But still am facing the same problem. HFA_03 will solve the problem else i need to go for exact HFA_02.

Pls help me on this... also can u send me the procedure for upgrading the HOT fix.

Don't use patch add to install HFA03. You can corrupt your installation. Pls, always read readme for HFA. Installation process is described in this doc.

    Quote from doc
    "...INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Untar and extract the packages to a temporary directory.
    2. Make sure that the each package is in seperate directory.
    3. Install the packages in the order that that they appear.
    4. For more information see the HFA release notes.
Note that packages that are installed on the Gateway can also be installed using SmartUpdate...
    ...SecurePlatform Installation
    ---------------------------
Install the packages in the following order:
    1. SPLAT - this is the OS package.
    2. fw1
    3. ng-bc - install on the SmartCenter Server.
    4. Performance Pack
    ..."
