I think I will directly connect the sync interfaces instead of using a vlan to prevent this from happening again.

R70 is useless right now unless you are a salesman. I don't see too many customers flocking to R70 any time soon because of the crazy licensing.
I would recommend getting the CCSE R65 for now. The Accelerated CCSE R70 has just become available but there isn't much information out on it yet.
