Pay rate: $56,089 - $83,170 d.o.q.

Job description
Broward County is a large local government that serves over 1.7 million southeast Florida residents, receives national recognition for various e-government initiatives, and is one of the fastest growing areas of the nation for high technology.

This individual will assist with the implementation and maintenance of IT security solutions including firewalls, VPN appliances and intrusion detection/prevention systems.


Responsible for defining security frameworks for existing and new systems.
Responsible for system security planning, developing, and implementing security policies across multiple platforms.
Ensures successful implementation and maintenance of the defined standards.
Ensures compliance of IT Security Policies.
Manages and supports networking and security services in LAN, WAN and Internet network infrastructure.
Manages security devices such as firewall, IDS, VPN, etc.
Provides technical support and consultation for enhancement of and change to network security configuration.
Provides fault resolution and escalation.
Maintains documentation.
Defines processes to manage the network security.
Develops cutting-edge, innovative solutions for IT networks security.
Conducts active penetration tests; discover vulnerabilities in information systems.

Education requirements

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science or related field; four (4) years experience in supporting users and analyzing computer systems specific to the area of IT Security administration; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.


Experience with Security software, disaster recovery, firewalls, systems monitoring, etc.
Must have Checkpoint administration experience.
Sound knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory.
Knowledge of backup and recovery processes.
Working knowledge of DOS, Windows, UNIX operating systems, and Internet/Intranet technologies.
Ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing technology.
Ability to translate technical terms for non-technical persons.
Excellent communications (written and oral), customer service and problem solving skills.
Experience working as part of a technical team.
Must have experience administering rights, permissions, and ACLs.
Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with open source and commercial vulnerability assessment tools.


Deployment experience and enterprise-class security solutions:

Host and Network-based Intrusion Detection solutions
Enterprise VPN solutions
Experience developing security strategy, policies and standards is preferred.
Industry certifications in Information Technology are a plus.
