Lead Analyst - Checkpoint Firewall Administrator

Located in Danbury CT - not virtual
Target Salary is $90k

This position is part of the Client IT Operations Telecom Team. The candidate will be responsible for administering and maintaining Client’ global firewall platform. This position requires 2-3 years hands-on console administration, policy development/deployment, troubleshooting and maintenance of Checkpoint enterprise devices. Additional maintenance or administrative experience (e.g. CLI, deployment, support) in the following areas is strongly recommended: CISCO network infrastructure, SourceFire Intrusion Prevention, Juniper SSL VPN appliances, VoIP and SIP protocol.

Client maintains a global firewall infrastructure. The successful candidate must have hands-on working knowledge of enterprise grade Checkpoint Firewall Appliances. This includes, but it not limited to IP Series 2XX and 5XX devices.
a. Manage, modify and troubleshoot firewall rule policies.
b. Maintain fully functional backup process. The successful candidate must be proficient in restoring devices in the event of failure (e.g. normal restoration from backup, restoration in Disaster Recovery scenarios, restoration of existing policy and configuration to brand new devices.
c. Manage, maintain and prudently update IPSO operating systems.
d. Manage and maintain the overall “health of the environment” using any and all tools required to support this effort.
e. Work with vendor to manage annual maintenance for Checkpoint devices. Keep accurate documentation on any and all devices that may be approaching “end of life” status. Make recommendations for upgrades and improvements in the network topology as needed.

The successful candidate will benefit from having functional experience (e.g. CLI, deployment, support) with some or all of the following technologies.
a. CISCO switches and routers
b. Juniper and Aventail SSL VPN appliances
c. SourceFire Intrusion Prevention platforms
d. Riverbed Cascade and Steelhead appliances
e. Wireshark
f. AVAYA PBX – VoIP and SIP platforms

The successful candidate must effectively manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. They must be well versed in project planning standards, using MS Project software and managing vendors to assure successful completion of network objectives.
Maintain accurate change management records as required.
Demonstrate the ability to organize and lead resources appropriately during all phases of project implementation.
Provide effective/concise updates relating to all current initiatives including, but not limited to (project schedule, platform modifications, outages, contingency planning, issue escalation).

This is a team position and therefore will require effective oral and written communication at multiple levels of the organization.
a. Technical communication with staff in the following areas – Telecom, Network Management, LAN Services, Data Center Operations, etc.
b. Quickly and concisely communicate with vendors to manage resolution of network issues as required.
c. Provide appropriate project updates to management and other areas of the IT/Telecom department.

The successful candidate is a self-starter and comfortable with presenting ideas and initiative to team members and department leadership.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to organize initiatives, implementations and resources such that production environments are not impacted during regular work hours.
Client maintains a global infrastructure. Managing time differences around the world is a critical aspect of this position.
