Hi,

Does anyone have any more information about the new 4000 series appliances that Check Point are now offering? For example, what operating system do they run (splat/ipso), typical licensing costs and whether they support R65 (or only newer R71 and R75) software versions?

Many thanks

Only the IP Appliances run IPSO, the new Appliances are running SPLAT.

They only ship with R71/R75 image pre-installed. Unless you have have an older IP Appliance such as the IP350/IP380 where the hardware is still supported but won't take R7x then you are no longer running a supported configuration. R65 went EOL in March 2011!, so you should definitely not be looking at deploying R65 unless you are running R65.2 for the VoIP capability, in which case you will need an older appliance/Open Server that can run R65.

In terms of licensing then they come pre-bundled with Check Point licenses in various configurations, ie 4205 comes bundled with 5 blades, 4210 comes bundled with 10 blades. Since the Nokia Acquisition then all the appliances combe pre-bundled with a Check Point license.

Thanks for that...

Yes, I am looking to replace some old IP380 and IP740 devices. These are running R55 and holding up our management platform upgrade from R65.

The new appliances only support R71.30 and above (not R75 GA, though). They run SPLAT today and will run Gaia when it ships.

PhoneBoy,

since gaia means = "Gaia was the great mother of all ", I am guessing is going to be the mother of all OS?

Sometime, I wonder, who comes up with these names?...LOL

So today we have 4 series:
IP
Power-1
UTM-1
New 2012

With Gaia they all will run the same OS.
Any rumors which series will when be abandoned?
Because it makes no sense to continue all of them, neither for CP nor for the customers.

Hmm - Interesting, but heard from my checkpoint partner that UTM-1 series will be demolished soon.
