hi mate thanks for ur reply. i thought they are giving the evaluation for 30 days right. it;s mentioned in the evaluation page. are u sure it;s only for 15 days. mate for smart console products for the managing the box do we need to buy it seperately. ur guidance is very helpful thanks a lot once again for ur prompt reply. waiting for ur reply. regards sebastan

If you purchase a copy / CD from their website, it has a code on the back which you can use at checkpoint.com to get a free 30 day evaluation license. If you do not want to use that code, you can simply install the software using the CD and by default it has a 15 day evaluation license. You can use the CD to install all the Check Point products in the Suite. The SmartCenter server which would have the same 15 day eval license as the gateway would. You can have the SmartCenter server on a different machine from the gateway or you can have the SCS and Gateway installed on the same machine. __________________ Its all in the documentation.

hi mate thanks a lot for ur reply. so after i get the pack from checkpoint i should register it with them right for to be able to use it for 30 days. and after days i can reinstall the server and use it again right for a another 30 days. can u pls confirm on the same mate. thanks a lot. waiting for ur reply. regards sebastan

"and after days i can reinstall the server and use it again right for a another 30 days." NO, it does not work like that. Checkpoint will give an eval license with an expiration date. You will NOT be able to register again.

hi mate thanks a lot for ur reply. so if i first install checkpoint registering the evaluation copy from their i will be able to use it for 30 days right. so after 30 days can i just reinstall the server with the code on the back of the cd and use the evaulation for 15 days as u mentioned. can u pls help me on this mate. thanks a lot once again. regards sebastan

"so if i first install checkpoint registering the evaluation copy from their i will be able to use it for 30 days right." That's correct. "so after 30 days can i just reinstall the server with the code on the back of the cd and use the evaulation for 15 days as u mentioned." That is correct BUT you do NOT need the code on the back of the CD. The software will work for 15 days right without entering anything. have fun. By the way, if I am not mistaken, you just recently passed the CCIE security right? If that is true, congratulation. Welcome to the club :-)

hi sebastan_bach, I cracked the beast back in 2006. That's my nickname cciesec2006 :-) Sure, you can bother me anytime. I don't mind. I've been working with Checkpoint since version 4.1 on Nokia. I still have a lot to learn with checkpoint. As far as firewall goes, I prefer checkpoint over Cisco ASA/Pix/FWSM any days. In term of troubleshooting and support, checkpoint is a much much better solution than Cisco. nothing beat tcpdump and fw monitor. I think you are going to like learning checkpoint firewalls. You will increase your earning potential since you now know both checkpoint and Cisco. Believe it or not, just about every financial service companies that I've worked with, they use Cisco for R&S and checkpoint for firewalls. Have fun my friend.

hi cciesec that;s really great. so i guess learning will be really helpful in terms of jobs . thanks mate for being there to help me out. mate are u on msn or gmail so we can chat there as well. yeah working on cisco asa i know it;s just a natting box and nothing much in it. it will take years for them to come to this level. i have worked little on netscreen though and found in very powerful as compared to cisco asa. so let me know which im u use we can stay in touch through that as well, warm regards sebastan
