| Hi eXXperts, I am going to install Solaris on a SPARC platform, but I do not know how to boot that system from CDROM. In a documentation of SUN, they say that you should type "boot cdrom" in a prompt, but my system does not offer me that prompt. It prompts me to authenticate, but I do not know the root password as I purchased an old and used system. What can I do then? My aim is to install NGX on it. Thank you in advance for your help. Best regards, Yasushi |

| If you do not have a sun keyboard; Connect to the system via a serial cable. (I always use TeraTerm, it's free and does the job) Download: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002416/teraterm.html When the system boots, in TeraTerm go to: Tools: Send Break You might have to do it several time, during post it does not respond to the break signal. You will enter the OBP and see a ok> prompt, now you can enter the boot cdrom command. If you have a newer model, it might be fitted with a ALOM (advanced light out management). The procedure is slightly different. If you have ALOM and the above did not work, please let me know. Regards and good luck! Martijn Last edited by mmoret; 2006-12-09 at 09:10. | Hi eXXperts, I just tried to type the command mentioned above: ABORT -A as well as abort -a The first message displayed on the screen is: Boot device: disk:a File and args SunOS Release 5.9 So, I cannot stop the boot process at all. I do not get a prompt to type in that command. What am I doing wrong? The keyboard is one with USB connector. Could that be the reason? Thanks again for your help! Kind regards, Yasushi |

abort+a or stop+a is a key push on keyboard not a command to type in |

| Hi Abusharif, thank you. I am sure that this is the reason. I cannot test that at the moment as I am abroad to teach Check Point. I am in Switzerland at the moment! As soon as I am at home, I will have occasion to install the maschine from scratch! Greetings from Switzerland (Bern), Yasushi |

| Hi eXXperts, thank you for your help. I could manage to install the operating system from scratch. Now, I am guessing on how to mount the cdrom. I tried the following command: mount -o ro -F hsfs -r /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s1 /mnt/cdrom This did not work, so tried all the possible digits after s. But no success. How can you find out the device file of the cdrom drive? Any hint will highly be appreciated. Kind regards, Yasushi |
