Default Log File Name

Hi,
I am running NGFP3 on Nokia IPSO with management server on Windows 2000. In the smart view tracker, When I select File-Switch active file, deselect Default and give a log file name, no file with the given name is written to the disk, instead it writes a log file with the name of some old date. Whats wrong?

What are the different files in the log folder? I see files with the extension of logLuuidDB, logaccount_ptr, loginitial_ptr etc etc.
Is it safe to delete these files.

Appreciate if some one can provide more information on this.
Thanks
