We have some money for some software and I was considering smartview monitor as an option. We have the basic view but no license on our smart center. It will cost about £10k and i'm not sure we will see the benefit from it? Would anyone else spend 10k on it? I might download an eval for it. Will it affect performance too much? Our boxes are only running at 5% so it should be ok. Sam

th0i3, Monitoring the configuration and status of the devices is free, but some of the extended functionality needs to be purchased. If I remember correctly, anything beyond the Status page of the device is a separate license(Top 10 lists and such). lodown

It might have changed by now, but if you had certain higher end licenses, then SmartView Monitor and SmartUpdate would get thrown in for free.

thi is correct, even on the Provider 1 environments Smartupdate for sending packages out to gateways is not in the standard offering, same for the normal SmartCenter you need to buy either the PRO version of Smartcenter and the PRO Add-on for Provider 1 to get this functionality. With my previous company we had qthe full version and we were running quite some Edge devices, Monitor was at least a good tool for looking at the tunnel state for all these devices. Now I have about 75 of these to manage for many different customers, but no PRO add-on, bummer....... __________________ Regards, Maarten. P1 R62 IPSO SPLAT IOS

The full version of SmartView Monitor was indeed worth the cost, right up until Check Point decided to bundle it with SmartView Reporter (Eventia Reporter), quadrupled the price and no longer offered it by itself.. I'd buy it today if it was at the old price but I am not going to pay for Reporter when I have zero use for it. Ray

My Latest trick to get around this is to buy a UTM-1 as a SmartCenter only, and if logging requires it, buy a CLM. A not-well advertised fact is that the UTM-1's SmartCenter license includes 80% of the SC Pro/Power functionality, including SV Monitor (I think the only bit it's missing of consequence is SmartMap, and who uses that anyway!!!). The site limitation is a bit of a pain, but it's still cheaper than the equivalent SC Power license, and I get Hardware as well! At least, this is my trick until CP gets off their butt and actually releases a management appliance..... How about it CP??? |
