Default Polling Interval in Smartview Monitor

I am using Smartview Monitor to generate email alerts when certain thersholds are exceeded on our firewalls. The emails are woking as expected. Im confused tho how this mechanism, between the Smartcenter server and the firewalls, actually works. Does it:

- constantly monitor the firewalls and alert whenever there is a threshold exceeded?
- use a polling interval and check all firewalls at that interval

Also, if it is an Interval, how to do I change this to be 5 minutes?

Thanks

hi

its time interval, 1 minute by default.

Can be changed in global properties (smart dashboard) log and alert, time settings

Here is the response from Nokia:

There is a constant connection between the management station (SmartCenter Server) and the FW module. When the threshold value that you configured has been exceeded then the FW module send the alert to the management station. Along with the selected alert there is also an entry in the FW logs regarding it.

You should receive a single alert for each time the threshold is exceeded.

For the example that you gave of CPU threshold of 80%.
- You will receive an alert when the unit exceeds the threshold.
- If the CPU drops below 80% and then goes above the 80% another alert will be sent out.

The Refresh interval in the Smartview properties page has no affect on when an alert will be generated.

ofcourse, for actual alerts they will be generated when they occur.
For regular monitor check (status of cpu, amount of current connections.....well pretty much anything gather info in smartview monitor) timed interval apply
