Default Anti-virus update crashed SMTP Security Server

I have a NGX R61 running on SPLAT with Smart Defense and Anti-Virus.

This has been working fine for over a year. But last week all SMTP traffic was blocked in all directions. All other traffic was normal.

Turned out SMTP was accepted normally (visible in the log) but the Security Server seemed to have crashed. No SMTP traffic went through the firewall, either inbound, outbound or internal. Just like the setting on the Anti-Virus scanning.

After a CPStop and CPStart everything worked fine again.

After investigation it seemed like the we received an anti-virus update (30.7.3699) at 14:00. The Exchange log shows that only 4 minutes later it was impossible to deliver the eMail.

My best guess is the update crashed the SMTP Security Server.

My two questions are:
1) have you ever experienced this?

2) How can I stop and start the SMTP Security Server on SecurePlatform without restarting the whole firewall?

Is anyone using F-secure email filtering with Checkpoint?
