Default Error compiling policy after SmartDefense Update

I´m using NG AI R55 HF12, on top of a Windows NT4 SP6a. In a distributed environment.

I was using Smartdefense until a update on 08/18 broke my policy compilation and installation.

This is the history:

1-Updated Smartdefense with 08/18 revision;
2-modified objects and/or rulebase;
3-applied policy to modules;
4-here it says:
"c:\winnt\fw1\r55\lib\updates.def", line 467: ERROR: function identifier <png_block> redefined
compilation failed
5-I got this file and removed a duplicate entry defining png_block;
6-reaplied policy, now succesfully.

But every time I change the name of the policy, or create a new database when revision control is activated, the error comes back.

I don't want to edit updates.def forever, so I ask for your help on what to do ?

I have read the HFA-15 of R55, but it did not even talk about smartdefense.

I´m thinking on these alternatives:

1-Install HFA15 on R55;
2-reinstall FW;
3-reinstal FW and not use smartdefense;
4-upgrade to NGX.

Can you give me others ?

What can I do else ?

Thanks in advance!

Had the same problem last week running on Linux and got the following from Checkpoint Tech support

Good luck,

RE: Policy install error

The symptoms you are experiencing are related to a known issue. We do have a workaround ready to go at this time. The steps are as follows:

On the SmartDashboard GUI client machine that logs into the SmartCenter
Server:

Stop the SmartCenter:
1. cpstop

Remove the following files:
1. $FWDIR/conf/inspect.C
2. $FWDIR/lib/updates.def

Start the SmartCenter:
1. cpstart

Update the asm_update_version parameter:

1. Run the GuiDBedit, by running the following program:
C:\Program Files\CheckPoint\SmartConsole\R55\PROGRAM\GuiDbedi t.exe
2. In the upper left Tables tab, select the Table > Managed Objects > asm branch.
3. In the upper right pane, select the AdvancedSecurityObject object.
4. In the lower pane, find the property with the name "asm_update_version".
5. Double-click the asm_update_version property entry.
6. In the Edit dialog box, enter "-1" in the Value field.
7. Click "OK" in the Edit field.
8. In GuiDBedit, select File > Save All.
9. Select File > Exit to exit the GuiDBedit.

Perform the SmartDefense Update, and install policy:

1. Log in to SmartDashboard.
2. Execute the SmartDefense Update. (the version # will remain 541050818)
3. Install policy.

Hey guys,

I have a customer of mine having almost the same issue, however he did an upgrade from NG AI R55 to NGX R65, his error message is the following:

Installation Targets Version Policy Type Details
FW1GW NG AI Advanced Security Test_FW_20070920-First_NGX:
FW1GW NG AI Advanced Security "C:\Program Files\CheckPoint\NGCMP\R65\lib\base.def", line 2683: ERROR: function identifier <dns_stream> redefined
FW1GW NG AI Advanced Security Compilation failed.
FW1GW NG AI Advanced Security Operation ended with errors.

I am curious to know if he should apply the same solution indicated on this thread.

Any help would be useful! ;-)
