Alerts: Via SMTP

Im trying to get the smtp alert to work and cant seem to get it, in global properties i have under logs and alerts >SMTP > sendmail -s Alert user@domain.com i test it and its not working any ideas?

Take a look at the help info. Your syntax looks incorrect. You need to know your mailserver...

internal_sendmail [-s subject] -t mailserver [-f sender_email] recipient_email [recipient_email ...]

OK i did look at the help and yes it was wrong, but i changed it and still nothing, i SSH to the smartcenter box and go to expert mode and try sendmail that way, it gives a 0 at the end then go back to command prompt any idea? Would this be a problem since the fwsrv isnt part of our domain:?

it works perfectly for me:

internal_sendmail -s MailAlert -t a.b.c.d <me@company.com>

Can you ping your mailserver from your fw environment?

Yes i can ping it, but still nothing... Did you enable anything on your mail server for this and is the smartcenter box a member of your domain?

Nope, mail server is company's mail server, I cannot do anything about it.

And nope, I didn't even set domain on my management server.

test if you can send a mail via command line/telnet, and you will see the reason.
red: the part you have to type
blue: possible answer from the server

if you found the error/valid addresses/parameters test with this command

echo hello | sendmail -s 'test from command line' -t your.mail.gate -f splat@accepted.mail.address you@accepted.mail.address
