Default R62 SmartDashboard refuses to connect (or R62 fwm refuses to accept connection)

Hi all,

I have a big problem on my corporate firewall;

I recently upgraded from r60 to r62, everything was smooth until yesterday, when suddenly my dashboard would refuse to connect to the management server. The management server is fine, rules are fine, I am in the GUI Clients list (even changed it to Any) however i get "Please make sure that the Server ******* is up and running and that you are defined as a GUI client" when I try to connect. My fw1 is running on splat. I've tried stop/start, even reboot. How can I diagnose and solve this problem? Any ideas?

Further info;
ssh is running, i can connect via ssh.
i can telnet to port 18190, connection is established.
i the connection is immediately rejected when i try with smartdashboard, it's not a rule or routing problem.
fwm is running (duh!)

I just ran into this after upgrading to R62. Same thing, ssh works fine, client IP was added in using cpconfig. But can't connect, fwm.elg shows connection being denied. After some looking around, I found that the $FWDIR/conf/gui-clients file had some garbage characters in it. Did a cat of the file, looked good, didn't see them until editing the file with vi. Deleted the garbage, now connects fine :)

So open $FWDIR/conf/gui-clients with vi, might be same problem for you.

Jamie
