I have used the upgrade_tools(export only) to execute a tgz file successfully. Now, how can I test be assured that this file is good. I can see the file in my temp folder but other than that how do I know it's a good file. Also, upon executing upgrade_export I was warned to stop all Checkpoint clients and the to hit return. I hit return without "stopping Checkpoint clients" and still executed a tgz file. Will something be missing from my tgz because I did not "stop Checkpoint clients"? I am new to this field so please bare with my minimal knowledge.

Thanks Sam, I have tried your suggestion but came across another issue. Upon importing the .tgz file I get an error in the cmd complaining about an environmental variable. I called CP and they stated that it could be the version that I have of the software...we shall see.

When restoring the backup, you have to have Check Point installed first as the backup is only of the configurations. I'm not sure if you have done this or not so I figured I'd make sure.

Thanks for reading Lackie, What I am doing is building a "test box" for the firewall; fresh new install and then using the "import configuration" option so that I can import the file that I exported from the live box. I hope I make sense.
