You have to connect to the management station with the same version of GUI that is installed on the management station.

R60 management station can manage firewalls that are a previous version if that is what you are asking.

I have Management on NGX-R61 ( with trial licence ), Enforcement-Module with NG-R55 and NG-licences.

Writing back the Ruleset ends with the following errors:
VPN-1: ERROR: No license for encryption,
FW-1: Warning: No valid license

By default a mgmt server runnign a newer version is backward compatibe for earlier versions of Checkpoint enforcement points. During the installation, there are backward compatability packages installed. Check to ensure they have been installed. You can however only connect to the mgmt server with the same or newer gui client.

SmartDashboard and SmartCenter server version have to match, a newer GUI client cannot manage an older SmartCenter server. Which is why I have 7 SmartDashboard installs on my work Laptop... just to be sure...
