Default CP NG FP3 SYNDefender

I have a client that would like to implement SYNDefender mode on the firewall and I see you can configure using older methods SYN gateway and Passive SYN gateway. I also noticed you can configure "active Syn attack protection" with NG FP3 and it looks similar to the older methods listed (syn gateway and passive syn gateway) from the configuration standpoint. What method is being used here in NG FP 3? or how is it protecting the fw from a syn flood attack? I dont' see any explanation on how it acts or behaves. Thanks
