Mapped drives on SmartCenter server

Could someone please tell me if it is a security risk if I have a mapped drive for the backups on the SmartCenter server (distributed environment)? Obviously I will have to make amendments to the security policy to let traffic through, but I’m just concerned if there are any issues with this?
