Default Module vs Management versions.

Hi all,

Is there any official statement regarding differences in versioning between Smart Center and the Module? Can R55 Smart Center manage R61 module? Can R61 CMA (Provider-1) manage R62 Module?

I’ve heard the rule of thumb that the management version must be equal or higher than the module, but others I’ve meet insist on the opposite. An official word on the subject might be helpful.

Right now I’m considering R62 client – is that possible to manage it by R61 (Provider)?

Thanks in advance,
Alex.

As per my reply elsewhere ;o) The official word from Check Point has always been that the module version must not exceed the management version. ie you cannot manage an R62 module from an R61 CMA. You can however manage an R60 module from an R65 manager.

The High End Product Suite Getting Started Guide (p25 in the R65 manual) states:
"Backward Compatibility For Gateways
NGX R65 management supports backward compatibility for the following gateway versions:"

You will note that there is no mention of Forward Compatibility. This is because there are functions and features of later versions of the software, which simply do not exist in earlier versions.

To Manage your R62 module you will have to upgrade your Provider-1 to either R62 or R65.

Thank you for both replies.

At last something official. And I looked for that in the SmartCenter/SmartPlatform Guide, silly me :o) Anyway, thanks.
