Default Consolidating Multiple SmartCenter Servers Into One

Hi all,

I've been tasked to complete a project initiated by my predecessor, to consolidate 5 NG AI SmartCenter servers into one new NGX server.

From the documentation he left behind he had been planning to make the new server a secondary server to each of the existing servers in order that the data from each server be replicated across. I'm not sure if that would work or not, but from what I've read elsewhere I'm going to pursue a different method.

The NGX Upgrade Guide has a fairly detailed explanation of the steps required to migrate to a new server on a different IP address, and jgahan1978 has posted some nice instructions previously in this forums, so I'm fairly happy about migrating a single smartcenter server. However these are guides to migrate from one server to one server, not from 5 servers to one server.

Has anyone else done this task before? What will upgrade_import do to existing data (for example the objects), will it merge or overwrite? The policies are all named differently on each server, so I'm hoping that they'll be able to co-exist on one server happily. Are there any other pointers or gotchas I should be looking out for?

I know that's a lot of questions, but rest assured that I have many, many more spinning around my head. I've had a few sleepless nights over it already.

Any advice appreciated,

Matt

The tool you want to look at is cpmerge. You might also want to look at odumper/ofiller (in the resources section on cpug).
