Default 'authentication scheme not allowed for user' when using SecureClient for PPC 2003

I'm trying to use SecureClient for Pocket PC 2003.

I have wireless connectivity and I have managed to create a site using a generic user authenticating with username/password.

However I want to be able to authenticate users with SecurID PIN/passcode.
Checkpoint's user guide says to put the PIN and passcode in where you would enter the password.

When I do this I put the username in and then put the PIN followed by the passcode in the password box.
I then get an error message on the client saying 'authentication has failed'.
The gateway's log says 'authentication scheme not allowed for user'.

SecurID is selected as the authentication scheme in the authentication tab of the user properties.
SecurID is also checked as an enabled authentication scheme in the general properties of the gateway.

Anyone else tried this and got it to work?
