Default SecureClient and Pocket PC 2003

I'm having trouble getting secureclient to work with my iPAQ running Pocket PC 2003.

I get authenticated on the gateway using username/password as
authentication method.
I seem to be able to create a site, and it looks as though I'm able to update it for topology, however, about 30 seconds after doing the update I get error message "error: communication with site x.x.x.x has failed".

Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong??
Any suggestions gratefully received as this is driving me mad!
