Why does it take so long before I get the Windows Domain Logon screen? When you have a Windows XP with WINS-server configured, the Windows default to NodeType 8 (H-node). This means that the Windows client will broadcast itself to the net and try to contact the WINS-server. Unfortunately the client will not get any answer until the Secure Client tunnel is established. If you press ctrl-alt-delete While the PC looks for a WINS-server all you will see is a blue screen!
This can be avoided if you changes the NodeType to 2 (P-node) in the Registry of the windows client. You can create a reg-file (pnode.reg) containing this: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\NetBT\Parameters] "NodeType"=dword:00000002Running the file will update the registry and change the default NodeType to a P-node even if the client gets a DhcpNodeType from a dhcp-server.
