Default SecuRemote/SecuClient to Netgear VPN End-Point

I have a notebook computer running WinXP from my company which uses Securemote/SecuClient NG with Application Intelligence RG56 to create a VPN back to my company's VPN (this works). I bought a Netgear VPN End-Point router for my home and want to create a VPN to my home router when not connected to my work VPN. However, when I create a new site in SecuRemote I give the IP address of my home router and then the default username fwg_local (from Netgear) and password for the pre-shared key (from Netgear). When SecuRemote attempts to connect it fails. I am using the authentication method od username and password. Under Connectivity Settings I have tried Standard and Advanced (user Mode, Perform IKE over TCP, and None). All fail with the message "Error: Communication with site x.x.x.x has failed. When I check the VPN log on the router there does not show any attempt. I also tried creating a default userc.c file...no good (Error: Communication with site x.x.x.x has failed) I can confirm that the router is accessable. I have logged into the router's administrative functions remotely...that works. Any ideas??

SecuRemote/SecureClient only works with VPN-1 and Embedded NGX (Safe@/Edge)

I thought VPN was VPN. Is there a common standard? Both Netgear and CheckPoint are members of VPNC. Shouldn't they both be using the same standards? Sorry, now I am frustrated.

If only!

No most company's VPN client are propriatrity (sic). PPTP is about it for "standard" VPN client.

Site-2-site, IKE/IPSec tends to be common.

Netgear have got their own VPN client. You have to buy it as a seperate item.

VPN Client Software - NETGEAR.com
