Can't Reinstall SecuRemote Sometimes, you may find that you cannot install SecuRemote again after having uninstalled it from a platform. First, make sure that SecuRemote is uninstalled from the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel applet. Then delete the file SRUNINST.EXE from the WINDOWS directory as well as %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\ckpgina.dll and %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\ckcnv.exe. In Regedit, you will need to remove the following keys: SecuRemote in \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CheckPoint\CheckPoin t Product SuiteSetup \\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Serv ices\FW1 (the key and everything under it) You should be able to reinstall SecuRemote successfully. The Check Point utility CPclean might also be useful as well. -- PhoneBoy - 13 Apr 2004 FAQForm FAQs.Class: SecureClientFAQs FAQs.OS: FAQs.Version:

I have troubles installing SecureClient R56 on XP SP2. At first install my PC kept rebooting and I went back to the last good configuration. Unfortunately, the restoration to a restorepoint earlier in time failed. The VPN-1 Virtual Adapter was not installed correctly. So, I had to delete some registry entries (Secureremote_UnInstall, and FW1 in HKLM\System\Services\ControlSet001\FW1) and to use the CPClean utility to get rid off the VPN-1 Virtual Adapter installation. Then, again the install came to the point that I had to reboot and the system kept rebooting. I dropped some left-over fwdrv entry from a Kerio Person firewall version 4 uninstall. I again tried to install SecureClient and this failed at the installation of the SecureRemote/Secure Client kernel. An unknown adapter was installed incorrectly. The install log says: vna_inst_util_install_win: UpdateDriverForPlugAndPlayDevices failed (error: 0x00000005) Any help is welcome

A follow-up: In order to get rid of Checkpoint SecureClient registry keys (all in HKLU\System\ControlSet002) from a previous install I rebooted and re-loaded the last good configuration. In this way the HKLU\System\ControlSet002 disappeared. Then I tried again to install SecureClient, and again the PC keeps rebooting just before I can log-on. I don't have any clue what is causing the rebooting. The install log does not show any serious problems In the network adapter list I miss the VPN-1 Virtual Adapter. The SecureRemote services are missing.

Again a follow-up. I decided to install SecureClient with a deactivated Norton Internet Security (NIS) 2005 temporarily and disabled file system auto-protection (i.e. with the PC not coupled to Internet and the LAN). Then the install of SecureClient gave no errors. The system could be rebooted. Norton Internet Security activated itself again, but file system protection was still disabled. The SecureClient icon did not appear in the system tray. Then I enabled file system NIS auto-protection and shutdown to reboot again. Now my PC again kept rebooting. The last good configuration had the same problem. So, I used system restore in safe mode to go back to an earlier restore point. NIS alert log showed that rule "Default Block Bla Trojan Horse" Stealthed (localhost 1042) related to Process C:\Program Files\Checkpoint\SecuRemote\bin\SR_GUI.exe. A whole system scan with NIS 2005 and updated virus definition files, did not show the Backdoor.Bla trojan horse. I assume that NIS 2005 gives a false positive message and that this prevents the correct install of SecureClient.
