| Secure Client with SOCKS We have a network with clients. They communicate via a SOCKS gateway with external networks. Now, we have in such an external network a Checkpoint VPN-1 NG AI gateway and we want our clients to establish VPN-Connections via the SOCKS gateway to this CP VPN-1 NG AI box. Is there a chance that we have success? SOCKS is kind of a generic application proxy. SOCKS version 4 was limited to TCP applications. SOCKS version 5 also allowed UDP. Applications must be SOCKSified in order to make use of a SOCKS server. In a Windows world, it's also possible to have a SOCKS shim over the TCP/IP stack. In NG AI, Check Point created something called Visitor Mode, which would allow you to tunnel Secure Client traffic through a normal https proxy or using a direct TCP port 443 connection. In theory, it's something you could tunnel through a SOCKS server, but getting SecureClient to use the SOCKS server is another thing entirely. I have no idea if a SOCKS shim will work correctly on a platform with SecureClient installed on it--I have to imagine not. -- PhoneBoy FAQForm FAQs.Class: SecureClientFAQs FAQs.OS: OsWindows, OsLinux FAQs.Version: 1.0 |
