What is the result of setting "Inbound" and "Outbound" Rate at Gateway Properties/Topology/Edit Interface/ QOS ? For exaample if i set the rate fot Inbound/outbound to 10 Kbps , does this mean that the gateway will never allow traffic to go above this limit ? When i set Inbound/Outbound rate both being 50 Kbps then the Floodgate is limiting all traffic to around 100 Kbps. ( according to SmartView Monitor ). However it IS limiting the traffic. If I set the Inbound/Outbound rate to 100 mbps , the traffic reported increases to accomodate all necessary bandwidth. Everything seems to work however it is not Precisely enforced. The limits/ Guarantees seem to work although not precisely enforced. Last edited by derspot; 2007-01-21 at 11:26.

They are used to calculate the weighted rates and for %utilization reports. They do not restrict the actual usage if nothing is fighting for bandwidth. Guarantees should always work unless there is a conflict (something higher up in the rulebase that isn't leaving enough bandwidth) As for limits, they may only limit when its an issues, I don't remember for sure.

In my tests they did restrict the actual bandwidth , For example if i set the rate to say 50 kbps inbound outbound , i start many pings from remote machines i observe the gateway restricting the bandwidth ( the pings take a long RTT ) . If i change the rate back to 100 Mbps the bandwidth usage increases ( as SmartView Mon reports ) to accomodate all pings and they ( the pings ) return in a regular RTT.
