Default FW boots to BOOTMGR

Received a new firewall. Turned it on and went straight to BOOTMGR. Typed "boot" and it loaded. Rebooted the firewall, and goes straight to BOOTMGR, then gives two errors:

Diskless Platform

BOOTMGR[5]> NB Global first error, FERR_GLOBAL= 0x000002a0

any ideas?

I've no experience with ipso, but this looks like a doa. Try to replace it

Kind regards

The device was an RMA for a bad box, but Nokia RMA'd the replacement :)

Well, if you want to try a reinstall, connect it to an FTP server and type "install" at the boot prompt. It will ask for an IP address, an FTP server, and a folder to install from. The folder should contain "ipso.tgz" and any packages you want to install from the outset.

If you're more nervous, just type "env" and "ls /" and get back to us. We might be able to give you some more clues. But I suspect not...

If you suspect a corrupt IPSO, should I boot to BOOTMGR and run this install procedure, or is there another way to completely wipe out the box?

Yes, booting to BOOTMGR and running the install commands wipes out the current IPSO. I couldn't tell this from Nokia's documentation, but had someone from Nokia confirm this.

Thanks

From previous experiences with RMAs and Nokia.. they are sending out the firewalls without an IPSO image. That's why you're booting up in BOOTMGR. You need to put an image on the firewall and you'll be golden.

Any chance this is an IP2255? We've RMA'd so many of these that we lost count (after 10 or so). If you have a support contract (and it sounds like you do), don't waste your time doing their troubleshooting - especially if it is a 2255!

I've never seen a Nokia box arrive without IPSO, though I've never seen a Nokia box arrive with the current version, either.

Typing install at the BootMgr wipes the box clean every time. Best to start there, then load the IPSO and wrapper you need. The menu will guide you through this pretty clearly. You'll have to load the HFA you want afterwards, but the initial menu will allow you to load the IPSO, wrapper, and documenation all at once (if you so choose).
