Hi All, new here. I'll be up front. I work for a Hardware Reseller here in Tokyo and have come across a NokiaIP440. I regularly work with Cisco Equipment, including PIXs, as I'm currently studying CCNA/CCSP. I connected to 1 of the console ports, but, the settings that apply to Cisco, don't obviously work with this device. I could fool around with all settings, eventually stumbling across the corrrect ones, but, I came across this site, and thought I'd ask, instead. I'd also like to ask, what limitations will I have, playing with this, if I'm not a holder of any sort of registration etc.? I wanna play/learn with it, before it's sold. Thanx, and I hope my up front, honest approach is well received by all. Cheers. coolboarderguy...

The cable is different, different pinouts. There ought to be a Nokia cable somewhere with the box. Also, make sure you're plugged into the right port. It's a while since I used a 440, but iirc only one of the two 9 pin serial ports is a console port, the other isn't.

Hi All, thanx. When you say, different cable, do you mean a Nokia specific cable..? Not a rollover cable.? Unfortunately, there is no box or related manuals etc. Cheers. EDIT: What about the terminal settings>? Same as for a Cisco device, or totally different.? Most Cisco run as, 9600 8N1 no no coolboarderguy... Last edited by coolboarderguy; 2005-11-24 at 20:34.

Same settings (9600 8N1) as connecting to the Cisco but Nokias use a 'null-modem' cable for the console. I think I remember that when connecting to the console, you can't use the Monitor port on it at the same time, so you will have to disconnect that if you have it connected. You should be able to fully configure it. CheckPoint give you a 15 day eval when it's installed so you can play around with it for that long before wiping it out and doing it all over again.

A Nokia IP440 does not use the VGA output for anything more that POST. Once the IPSO kernel boots, all output goes to the serial Console port. In all other Nokia's, the POST also goes out the serial Console port.

This was posted over a year ago but just want to say thanks because it saved me a lot of time figuring out why I couldn't get to 'boot' prompt with my vga monitor. Thanks! |
