Default Upgrading VPN-1/FireWall-1 on IPSO

Upgrading VPN-1/FireWall-1 on IPSO

Unlike on other platforms, each release of FireWall-1 on IPSO is a self-contained release in a separate directory. For example, 4.1 SP1 DES would be in a directory called /opt/FireWall-1-des.v4.1.SP-1. 4.1 SP1 STRONG would be in a directory called /opt/FireWall-1-strong.v4.1.SP-2. If you were upgrading from DES to STRONG, the relevant bits from your 4.1 SP1 DES directory are copied over and merged over into your 4.1 SP1 strong directory. Your 4.1 SP1 DES directory will remain there until you remove the package from Voyager, so you can always go back to it if necessary.

One exception to this is the NG FP2 release, which is dependent on NG FP1 being installed. It should not be activated, but must be installed in an unactivated state. This is the lone exception I am aware of.

You use the 'newpkg' to install a new package on IPSO in version 3.1 and later. You can use 'newpkg -h' to get command line options.

Note that not every version of FireWall-1 supports every version of IPSO. This means you may also have to upgrade IPSO in addition to FireWall-1. Make sure you check the release notes carefully before upgrading or downgrading.
