Default Core XL

Does anyone know when Core XL will be available for splat? I was wondering if it will be in the next major release or just a rpm or something that can be installed additionally. I heard that it is already available with the Nokia 600 or something?

Anyhow, thanks for reply!

You may be thinking of IPSO 6.0 which is going to allow Nokia to use multicore CPU's. Initially will be available only on the 690 and 2450 , which are Dual Core and Quad Core respectively, and if it isn't out know will be any day soon. IPSO 6.0 isn't CoreXL however. CoreXL will come to IPSO early next year.

In terms of availability CoreXL is available for SPLAT since May for qualifying customers. So in theory is out already, just not as a general product. However if you actually need CoreXL for performance reasons then speak with your Check Point reseller about it.

I think in terms of general release you will be looking early next year possibly with a refresh of the UTM-1 Appliances to get Dual Core/Quad Core into them. Purely speculation though regarding the UTM-1 but it would make sense to get them on multicore so can actually run UTM efficently.

I have actually talked with Check Point about CoreXL on SPLAT and you can get it if you really want it, but it is really very much a public beta. When I asked them about it, they asked me what my apatite for risk was. It has been released to a very limited set of customers from what i have gathered. Where it should really help is with SmartDefense performance and basic firewall throughput. I am unsure if it will increase VPN performance since VPNx already uses multiple CPUs for VPN. What are you throughput needs?

thanks for you feedback! Currently I do not have any throughput needs or problems, I'm curious about how it works with dual or quad cores

CoreXL is for use on a system with a minimum of 4 cores (2x Dual, 1x Quad)

It is really designed to work with 8 cores total.
