Default What versions of Linux are supported for VPN-1/FireWall-1?

What versions of Linux are supported for VPN-1/FireWall-1?
Officially, FireWall?-1 supports RedHat 6.0 thru 7.3, depending on your service pack level of FireWall?-1.

Some people have had success with SuSE? 6.2, SuSE? 6.3, Mandrake 7.0, and Debian with a 2.2.12 kernel (the rpm was converted to a deb). I personally have run an NG FP3 management console on the "Woody" release of Debian and it works just fine after you get around all the RedHat-isms. Others have reported kernels up to 2.2.18 work just fine. Check the release notes for the specific version of FireWall?-1 you have to see what versions of the kernel it supports.

Red hat linux latest 7.2.4 release (7.2.4.18-9.7) will not support NG FP3, install may work but device fw does not work. However it can be modified by downgrading to the 2.4.8-5 kernel (kernel-2.4.18-5.i386.rpm) from http://rpm.pbone.net/ install it with 'rpm --oldpackage --install kernel-2.4.18-5.i386.rpm' this will do everything including the boot loader. reboot and then install NG FP3.

Rene van Koll provided the following how-to for Slackware 8.0:

Install Slackware 8.0 with at least the following packages: A, AP, D, K, N and F.
While installing use kernel 2.2.19 with the appropriate set of modules
Download the PAM libraries (http://www.us.kernel.org/pub/linux/libs/pam/)
Compile PAM libraries and install them (according to the instructions)
Make a symlink from /usr/lib/libpam.so.x (x being the version number) to libpam.so.0
Build a System V init tree (/etc/rc.d/init.d, /etc/rc.d/rc0.d, /etc/rc.d/rc1.d, etc)
Install Check Point FW-1 with the command: rpm -i --force --nodeps CP.rpm (replace CP.rpm with the actual file name found on the CD)
Modify startup scripts to load the modules (scripts available on request)
From here on, you can follow the instructions in the manual again.
