Default Vendor seems confused, license question.

Last fall we had purchased the following:

CPUTM-CKP-5-500 Check Point UTM - Management and Gateway Bundle for 5 Sites & 500 Users

Currently we have one enforcement point, but are looking at adding to addition firewall appliances in two other offices. When working with a vendor (and for their benefit, I'll hold their name as they are double-checking their answer for me), I'm getting conflicting information that is making it difficult to determine the "total" cost I'll be looking at.

The rep mentioned during our last meeting that we are already licensed for 5 Gateways with our bundle we purchased and it would be the cost of the appliance. I kept coming back to if there was additional licensing cost for the "enforcement points" and he was certain we were already covered.

Can someone also help provide clarification on this? I'm certain that the answer is the opposite, we have a license for 1 smartcenter server, 1 enforcement point and management cover for 5 enforcement points. Am I wrong? Am I somehow saving the cost of four additional enforcement points in our current bundle? I suspect not and that I'm having a cool-hand Luke communications issue with my vendor.

My understadingin is that you have to buy the licens for the add. enforement modules, but the managment of these are covered .

My vendor finally came back with the same information.

So why is it so difficult for the vendors to have this knowledge in advance? It's not like they are a small vendor either.

It's pretty hard to keep up with CheckPoint licensing and how some of them fit together. Chillyjim gave a great talk at the CPUG Con last week that addressed some of the issues. That helped quite a bit, but I'm still foggy on much of it.

If I were you, I would definitely sign the agreement with this vendor in the first place, and put those words into the contract.

Hehe, definitely, your vendor need to pay "a lot" for the add'l module for UMT gateway - 500 usrs.

This is true that CP has changed their licensing once every quarter, as a reseller, it's hard to follow, but this is a simple mistake that should not be confused if you pay a little bit attention to the description of on-line price booking in CP's web.

You are correct and the reseller is incorrect
