SmartDefense Licensing for UTM Power

Hi all,

I'm currently costing up a Checkpoint solution based around UTM Power, however I'm a little confused on the smartdefense licensing. According to this link there are prices for UTM, VPN-1 Power and UTM Edge. Do I use the VPN-1 Power prices or the UTM prices? Our supplier has quoted the UTM prices (with the 500 user antivirus limit).

What size gateway are you using?

Just costing it up at the moment so we have nothing on site, but I was planning on opting for an unlimited site, unlimited user gateway running on a Crossbeam C6.

We will in the next 6 months look to add a second gateway for high availability. That was my other question actually... in HA mode is a second SmartDefense license still required?

UTM, Power or UTM Power?
Which depends on what add'l functions & features are required like FloodGate, AV or not?

The next question would be How many site(s) or firewall cluster that your SmartCenter could managed?

For unlimited users, you can choose either
1. Check Point UTM 5 Site $16,000 or unlimited site $22,000
2. Check Point Power 5 $24,000 or u $28,000
3. Check Point UTM Power 5 $25,000 or u $29,000

Where the SmartDefense and AV annual subscription has to be added, if you want to update the signature patterns. The subscription license is counted on number of gateways. Two gateways = two licenses even the other gateway for HA or standby purpose.

*** Please note that the max AV license is 500 users, that's why your supplier is correct.

It would be UTM Power unlimited sites and users, so from your post I would say option 3 is what we're looking at. I've got quotations in UK sterling so its hard to make a direct comparison but seems about right.

On the link in my first post it only states prices for VPN-1 UTM, VPN-1 Power or VPN-1 UTM-Edge. No mention of UTM-Power so I'm presuming its the same as VPN-1 Power.

UTM Prower is a Power license and the CI/UTM license.

How many IP addresses will you have behind your firewall(s)
How many Firewalls/Clusters will you have

SmartCenter is licensed by # of gateways it is maaging (up to 5 or unlimited)
Gateways are licensed by the number of IPs they are protecting
SmartDefense Updates are licensed by gateway size and number of clusters
(a two+ node cluster only counts as one gateway for updates)

Additional gateways for a cluster are discounted at 20%
