Default Which IP should I license?

Which IP should I license?
When you are doing IP Address-based licensing, you must always license the system against an IP Address that is on an interface of the box which is up and is the primary IP address on that interface. It can not be a secondary IP address on Unix platforms, though IPSO and NT do not appear to have a problem with this.

On firewall modules, the general rule of thumb is to always license the external, routable IP address. While this is not a hard and fast rule, people have had problems with authenticated control connections or encryption that were solved by re-licensing their systems according to these guidelines. On pure management consoles, you may not have any choice which IP address to license against since the box is likely to only have one IP address.

In NG, you have also the choice to centraly manage all the licenses. In this case all the licenses are bound to the IP address of the management consoles. This eliminates any problems you might have with licensing external IP addresses that might later change.
