| Hello folks, Shaun Morrissey here. I am (among other things) doing a CS doctorate at UMass/Lowell. I am attempting to create multi-dimensional visualizations that improve the comprehension and management of packet filtering firewall rule sets (and ACLs). It is a 5-dimensional problem to start. An email exchange with Barry Stiefel suggested I might be able to get some of the type of data I could use in my research here. For a broader view of me, here is one of the corporate bios I occasionally need to use: Mr. Morrissey has worked in vulnerability assessment for both military and civilian systems since the mid-1990s. He works from the combined perspective of the technical analyst and the first responder. He was part of the study team and co-author of MITRE's report to the Presidential Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection showing a detailed attack against the electric power system, telephone system, emergency services, and transportation sector of New York City. He has developed methods for, and then done Information Warfare assessments on multiple USAF platforms and systems. He has prepared critical infrastructure training material for agents of the Dept. of Justice in the Water/Sewer, Oil/Gas, and Banking/Finance sectors. He has developed red-team methods for OSD, done special vulnerablity research for the NSA, and was part of MITRE's team doing an End-to-End Performance and Process Assessment for the City of Houston Emergency Communication Center. He has developed attack methods for DARPA and the US Navy (material classified once completed). He was part of the Independent Technical Assessment team for the USAF Force Protection Office, conducting a review of new flight line security systems for the home airbase for Air Force One. He has also been licensed as an EMT since 1981 and served as a volunteer in a number of services. He has served as a volunter EMT with Amherst, NH Emergency Medical Services since 1997. He has been Deputy Chief for MCI in Amherst since 2002, and acted as exercise observer/controller in exercises in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. His educational background includes completed degrees in Physics(BS, MS) and Computer Science (MS), with doctoral work in progress on applying visualization to firewall security techniques.
