Default Introduce Yourself

Hello All,

In an effort to improve the community functionality here, I've created this forum for people to introduce themselves to our community.

Here's your chance to tell us a bit about yourself and for the rest of us to say "Welcome to CPUG!".

Barry

Hello

I'm reasonably new to Checkpoint NGX and have to administer the rules and security related functions on a daily bases. I registered on this forum a while back, but have not spent much time here.

I come for New Zealand and work in Tech-Security, which I enjoy and am keen to get more envolved with the community to learn and help others where I can.

So, a big hello to everyone :)

I was lucky enough to have dinner with ChillyJim two weeks ago in Albany, NY. He's a good guy and he knows his Check Point products.

I'm glad he's here.

You don't have to have dinner with him to know that. Those of us who've read his posts have learned that he definitely knows his way around the software.

Unlike myself :) Still, I enjoy coming and helping people. The posts by the more knowledge members of the community are invaluable as they add a real world dimension that the documentaiton lacks.

I'm relatively new to Check Point. I'm about a year into working with it, the more I learn the easier it is. The environment I work with isn't very large, but enough to give me a mental workout. Sadly I'm located on the East Coast, so its hard for me to make it to the CPUG lucheon I saw a post/email for in CA, looked like fun!

Default Re: Introduce Yourself

I'm a New Zealander, currently based in the UK.

I've been using/administering Check Point for I guess 4 or so years now. Mainly Provider-1 and Nokia, in a few reasonable-sized environments. Prior to that, I used to do Unix admin and OpenView support. I've also done a fair bit of Cisco stuff along the way. Picked up the usual suspect certs here and there (CCNP/CCDP, CCSE+, CCMSE).

I started out in NZ, then last year I moved to the UK, to do a few contracts, and travel. I've just completed my current contract, and so I guess that makes me technically unemployed. No bother though, I'll pick something up shortly, or just have a holiday for a bit!

Next year I'll probably head home, going the slow way - overland on my bike. After that, who knows? Will I keep doing this? Can't say for sure. If I do, I'll probably do that new top-level cert, if I don't do my CCIE first.

But in the meantime, I'll hang around here and try and answer the easy questions I can answer. Keeps me thinking about stuff, and improves my knowledge.

I'm from Germany.

working with CP since version 4.1, responsible for a lot of GWs and Sites, wild mixture of Splats, Nokias und Edges. Not certified for CP and not needed yet, maybe one day, to get better support from CP. I like the forum, nice people here and as northlandboy already mentioned, trying to help the others let me think about the stuff which finally improves my skills.

I'm the Dutchman!

Not really had the time to introduce myself so....
Been working with CP since the year 2000 on all sorts of platforms, Nokia,SPLAT,Resilience and Solaris.Have been certified trough the years. After working as a networkadministrator for a big telco company, I switched over to a small networkintegrator where I started engineering and left the administrator role(thank god).So I'm crossing the Benelux helping customers with their security implementations and when I'm not, I'm helping them from our support unit at the main office. Great forum and when I've a little time I'm always want to help the people here trying to solve their CP issues!

I've been working with CheckPoint since 2.1 in 1996 on many platforms (HPUX, Sun, Aix, Windows, Nokia IPSO, Linux, SPLAT (in that order, based on when I first installed on a particular platform)).

I've been subscribing to the mailing list since 1998 and I've now started visiting these forums every now and then as well. Used to work for a CP partner, but I'm now an end user/customer.

Gidday everybody,
I am a security specialist. Currently working on Queensland Australia's beautiful Gold Coast. Sand, surf and sunshine. And they pay me! Life is good. I have been using CP since '99. Started with V3.0. Can't remember much from back then, which is probably a good thing.....

Hi, I am a CCIE security guy that is a bit deficient in CP. I have deployed and worked on CP but I believe i lost a very juicy contract becos I couldn't write scripts and some advanced ISP type stuff on CP (very humbling experience since i believe I can always walk into any security job!)
I have 2 IP330 in my home lab and I will like to learn everything possible abt CP. I will probably be going for the architect exam and will be needing your help guys.
I am based in the UK and I wont mind forming a study group. maybe even write labs for the upcoming security guys.

Regards,

Tunde
