Default Install NTOP on SPLAT

Help!

Im a bit of a newb. I have downloaded ntop from:

SourceForge.net: Files

filename ntop-3.3.tar.gz

I untar/zip'd it to my /home/admin/ntop/ directory and now I am mystified how to install it.

Do I use cppkg? I tried and it balked at me.

Has anyone successfuly installed this product?

You have downloaded the source to compile ntop.

Adding own binaries to SPLAT is not supported and I really can understand this (even i miss some tools).

The best you can make now is cleanup the system ;)

Code:
cd /home/admin/
rm -rf ntop
btw.
ntop is a nice tool but if you look at the depend list you will know why it is not best practice for security to have it at a firewall.

Sorry,

Are you saying I can download the source? Or I have downloaded the source? (I thought it said Binary)

You have downloaded the source.

Code:
Filename .... Architecture Type
ntop-3.3.tar.gz .... Platform-Independent Source .gz
If you look inside the ntop-3.3 directory you will see many files ending with .c, .h, .m4 ... and a special file called INSTALL.

Code:
tar xvfz ntop-3.3.tar.gz
cd ntop-3.3
head -n 42 INSTALL | tail -n 2
keep an eye at the word compile

Btw:
do not extend SPLAT with such tools, you will loose every support

Ok, I understand.

Do you have any suggestions for monitoring CPU, Mem, and Interface utilization on SPLAT? As well as being able to look at historical data?

Thanks

SmartView Monitor - does all this, although you need a license for historical details.
