I have an R60 Smartcentre running on Splat. Apart from doing an upgrade_export, clean R65 install, upgrade_import; is it possible to upgrade the Checkpoint software insitu? At this time i'm happy to leave the OS at Splat R60. I just want to upgrade Smartcentre itself to R65 without having to reinstall everything.

Make sure you take a full backup of the box. Then take SPLAT R65 CD, and insert into CD drive on the Management Server Login to SPLAT Command Line Run patch add cd This will start a script off that will update/upgrade the SMARTCenter. It also upgrades the SPLAT as well as the Check Point. The two go together. It really is that simple. There is even an option for doing snapshot during the script. However just make sure you have an upgrade_export that you can restore your R60 with just in case.

I've seen situation where "mount /dev/cdrom" does not work. I would suggest you do the following: 1- create an R65 ISO image or you can download an iso image from checkpoint, 2- transfer this iso image over to your SPLAT R60 box, IN BINARY or via scp, this will ensure binary transfer. Make sure you transfer this iso image to /var/tmp directory, 3- perform "mount -o loop /var/tmp/ngx_r65.iso /mnt/cdrom" (where ngx_r65.iso is the name of the image you transferred" 4- cd /mnt/cdrom now you can perform the upgrade Simple right?

Sorry this is not an answer but a question thats close to the earlier one. I have a R60A installation and I got to know there are issues with upgrading from R60A to to R61. Does any one know if this still the case with R65. I am currently using CI on R60A. Thanks for your help.

R06A to R65 should be a valid upgrade path. Having said that, I always recommend doing the "clean build" upgrade path rather than in-place. Less risk, as long as you've got the spare kit.

On what kind of hardware are u running R60. When you have a hardware raid 1 configuration. Then you can always pull one of the disks, and use that disk as backup when the upgrade goes wrong. But before you start the upgrade make sure that the disk you pulled is ok. Eduard
