Default need help with upgrade

we currently have a nokia ip100 appliance with ipso 3.8 and R55 AI

we just bought a nokia ip390 appliance with ipso 4.1 and R61

the new appliance has been sent but its not here yet, i just want to know the easiest way move the configuration from one appliance to the other

will the new appliance be able to import the configuration from the old one (and old version)? will the configuration of checkpoint products remain? what do i have to do?

Can someonde direct me to some documentation about this?

thanks everyone

There are two tools called "upgrade_export" and "upgrade_import" that should do what you want. upgrade_export is actually a superb tool for creating regular backups of your firewall's configuration. It will backup everything Check Point-related into a single .tgz file. It will not back up operating system items, like static routes, however.

Just make sure you copy the .tgz file off to a safe location, since it sounds like your SmartCenter is on your firewall itself.

The R55 version should be here: http://www.checkpoint.com/downloads/...ligence%20(R55) and the R61 version installs it by default, I believe.

HTH,

Ray

ok... this may sound lame...

i clicked on the link you provided, all i see its "upgrade to R55" when actually i moving from R55 to R60

now, after doing a search on checkpoint site i found a tool "upgrading to R60", downloaded it (upgrade_checker_ipso.tgz) but when installing with newpkg i get an error that says: not an ipso package: could not find manifest file". also tried installing it from voyager and it didnt work

am i doing something wrong? is that the file i should be downloading?

thanks

This is a tgz file which you can use unzip to decompress it. Then you will find the upgrade_export file.

hahaha, i knew it was something dumb..

thank you very much

ok, another question

the old nokia has R55, the new one will have r60 but i want to upgrade it to R61

to upgrade the R55 config to r61, i have to download the "upgrade to R61" Upgrade checker and run upgrade_export in R55, then run upgrade_import in R61, right?

is there anything else i should consider before doing this?

Thanks

i guess you are installing standalone.

After you install the R61, import the tgz file by "upgrade_import". Remember your firewall login account to login. After login, edit the firewall object interfaces, IPSO version etc and install the policy. Nothing special if you install standalone. Install the license by smart update.

Don't worry you still have the old one to backup.
