Hi! I'm quite new to CheckPoint and I need to move a CheckPoint Firewall to new hardware, and also do an upgrade. Some help is needed... Today the SmartCenter server is on a separate SPLAT server, and the enforcement server is on a separate SPLAT server. The setup for the new servers/hardware is the same. From what I've heard I should use the upgrade_export tool from the NGX CD, (or download it) and then import the configuration on the new server? Then manually set the interface IP's and routing on the new enforcement server or use backup/restore? How about licensing? I'd prefer not to touch the running system... Any recommendations?

If you are doing this off-line, then you need to upgrade your licenses manauly in usercenter. First I woud download the existing licenses and store them, so when your FP3 system explodes in the middle of you working on the new boxes you still have the licenses (Yes this has happend to me). export/import works very well today. Read the upgrade guide it walks you right through the whole process.

If licenses are an issue I suggest getting an eval license as a backup, just in case you have upgraded but issues with license.. better to have 30 days to figure it out than during the upgrade. Good luck Paul
