Default Second Management Workstation

Hi Everyone

I have tried adding a second management work station to the firewall, but when creating the host second mangement station is greyed out.

If this is the case how can i go abouts migrating the SC across to a new IP and machine name.

Please see my other thread...

NG R55 migration

Benny,

Bit of a long shot this but I am 99.9% sure you need a licence for a second management station (please correct me if I'm wrong someone) as I remember wanting to install one myself for DR only to find out it needed a licence and decided in the end I decided it wasn't worth the extra cost. Maybe the reason you can't create a second management station is that you don't have a licence for it??

You right 100%. Secondary Managment Station needs in license. But I'm not sure that it's root of problem with grey-out.

Benny, are you sure that you installed server like Secondary SmartCenter (it's point from Check Point config menu)?

I thought the license might be the issue, i tried to create the secondary station using the SmartDashboard as an additional object.

Manage > Network Objects > New… > Checkpoint… > gateway

I could create the object but the tick box for secondary management station was greyed out and i couldnt select it.

So IF license is the issue for the sake of just migrating to a new box whats the best way, as the way i am trying to do is following as per previous thread, and checkpoint NG with AI R55 upgrade guide 700724

Try creating a new Check Point host, not gateway

Benny,

I read the previous post and it appeared you had pretty much everything covered. Can you not get a temporary eval licence (which will be fully featured), add it to your usercentre account and then add to the smartcenter server.

You will then have a licence for the 2nd management server and see if the option is not greyed out. Then (assuming this solves the problem adding 2nd management server) you will be able to add 2nd mangement server. Use this to complete your upgrade and once upgraded dispose of the eval licence and remove one of the management stations?

Ok ill give the eval license a go. I know how to create them in the checkpoint web site, but how do I import them into the smartconsole?

I will also see about adding the Host as well.
