| bvanniekerk, Cheers for that. Anyone used this courseware, opinions on it? Personally, I've used Check Point's official .pdf's extensively (see Check Point site and/or NGX evaluation CD) and have found them to be very good, although there's a lot of material to wade through. The upside though is that they're free and readily available. Here's a link to the documents for anyone who's interested: http://www.checkpoint.com/support/te.../docs_r60.html |

| I have been on both the courses and have the books. The books are ok, but the amount of errors is quite amazing (mostly on the labs) My trainer said that the are expecting revised courseware in the near future which might improve things. |

| Hi guys Thanks for the feedback, I've made a commitment to obtain the CCSA NGX Cert within a month. Currently have CCNA, CCDA, CCSP. Does anyone know what the Exams are like in comparison to Cisco? Rgrds b |
| |||
| I'm sitting my CCSA on wednesday (unless I get cold feet) so I will let you know. The initial difference I can see is: Cisco: 55-60 questions in 90 minutes Checkpoint: 100 questions in 90 minutes (if what i'm told is correct) I know lots of cisco guys that have issues with time in exams so I'm expecting time issues in this one. |
| |||
| Hi If you know the coursware and you don't think too hard, i.e. make it too difficult for yourself, then I'm sure 90 min should be ok. I normally use logic to answer question I don't know and it has worked for me thus far. I do of course study my LLL off before the exam. Was thinking more in-line with complexity of questions? Am I under-estimating the exam? Rgrds b |

| Guys, I sat the exam in early January (just about to do CCSE), also user 'jasond' after me. Both of us only really scraped a pass and both agreed the exam was harder than we expected (for example it bore little relation to the Boson practice tests, which were pretty auwful at the time). Check the previous threads, I'm of the opinion though that as long as you fully know and have practiced doing the things listed on Check Point's exam objectives list you'll be ok. As for the exam itself, mine was 65 questions. Best of luck, ddarby1 |
| |||
| Hi, passed mine this morning, i had the same number of questions as ddarby. so time is not really an issue. I don't want to break the NDA so: The NGX book does cover what is in the exam, there are a few questions then go in more depth (that will be the 20% real world experience checkpoint talks about). The boson test are improving I have been submitting changes and issue to the author and the exam has been updated. But I would say the the boson test covers far more that the actual CCSA exam. In summary like any exam you can pass it if you know the material, and compared to cisco exams, I would say it is the CCSA is easier...... |

| Thanks guys. Appreciate the response. I'll read through the Justin Menga book and see if the courseware is much different. Once thats' done, which is about a week after I get the courseware, I'll go write. I like to be prepared when going into battle. Rgrds b |

| What are you suggestions for obtaining experience with the firewall. I personally have no problems with the pix or setting up a linux firewall, but have never touched a checkpoint. Can you reinstall the evaluation CD after 30 days for more practice or do you recommend actually purchasing a device to practice on? thanks... |
| |||
| Get the eval cd from Checkpoint. Get hold of Vmware Install checkpoint on secureplatform onto the vmware machine and then install the gui on your pc. this lets you get all the practice you need. Also, you can use the demo function in the gui to practice setting up rules etc without any other machine. The eval lasts 15 days, but you can just rerun the cd setup, takes less than 30 mins to install. |

| If I may... Make sure you understand the relationship between the Smart Server, Smart Client and the actual firewall / enforement module. I got a crash course and it confused the llll outta me. Then i went back and did some reading which clarified a lot of things for me. Otherwise, it should be fairly easy to configure...I've only been working on it for 3 months...Not that difficult. Obviously my opinion... Rgrds b |

| For those that are interested, I took and passed the CCSE NGX yesterday. Nasty little exam if you ask me, it was 57 questions with a pass mark of 70% I got 73%, I spent 30 minutes adjusting my answers as I had time left at the end. I changed about 5 answers, so for all I know if I had left them alone I might have got 80%....... I got totally worked up over the QOS and the VOIP and it wasn't worth it. If you have got the Offical course book, I would focus on the first couple of chapters!!!! |
